Caught Running

Caught Running by Madeleine Urban and Abigail Roux.

I’ve just re-read this. It’s been many years since I read it the first time and I wasn’t quite sure if it was the one I remembered or if the one I was thinking of actually was Mary Calmes’s Steamroller. It was Caught Running that flitted around in my mind.

This is an old book, at least if we’re talking books in the M/M genre. It was published by Dreamspinner back in 2007, and if I’m not wrong, I think Dreampsinner started 2007, so we’re back in the cradle here LOL.

I still like this story, though the epithets drive me a little crazy, but it’s fun to see that even the ‘big names’ develop their writing style.

This is a story about how the role you had in high school follows you into your adult life. Both Brandon and Jake went to the school they’re now teaching in, and they’re still expected to be the nerd and the jock, only the roles don’t fit anymore, and the attraction between them grows as they’re working together.

It’s sweet, and I’m glad I read it again.

Caught RunningTen years after graduation, Jake “the jock” Campbell and Brandon “the nerd” Bartlett are teaching at their old high school and still living in separate worlds. When Brandon is thrown into a coaching job on Jake’s baseball team, they find themselves learning more about each other than they’d ever expected.

High school is all about image, even for the teachers. Brandon and Jake have to get past their preconceived notions to find the friendship needed to work together. And somewhere along the way, they discover that perceptions can always change for the better.

City of Monsters

What did I just read? City of Monsters by Andrea Speed is what I read, now if you would ask me what kind of story that is… I don’t really know.

It has vampires, werewolf, other shifters, reverse tooth fairies, zombies and all kinds of crazy stuff LOL. Hunter is a shifter unknown (he doesn’t know what kind of animal he turns into) and he owes a werehippo money.

He works as a finder and is looking for a reverse tooth fairy who is working with vamps up to no good when he meets Sakari, a newcomer to Nightshade. Sparks fly, and they work together to find the reverse tooth fairy.

This story is crazy, it’s funny and weird, and not at all what I had expected. I had expected it to be like Pretty Monsters, and there are some similarities, but yeah… If you’re looking for something different give it a go.

I went to get the link to Ms Speed’s website, and there I saw that City of Monster is about to be re-released by Less Than Three Press, it’ll be available on March 6th 2019.

Check out my collection of shifter stories

City of MonstersHunter is a human turned animal shifter in Nightshade, a literal city of monsters in a near-Earth dimension called Dev. All sorts of beasts reside here, unable to return to Earth, yet still plagued by the same jealousies, rivalries, and needs of any human. Resolving them is Hunter’s job.

Hunter faces supernatural perils at every turn: vampire debt collectors who most decidedly don’t sparkle, werewolfs who literally piss on everything you love, and surprise shifters. And just like back on Earth, there are mundane struggles too. Like paying the rent—which isn’t easy for a guy with more vices than virtues—and keeping his haunted blender happy with pricey produce. So he takes a job from a foul-mouthed reverse tooth fairy to find her missing twin.

Just when things seem like they couldn’t get any worse, Hunter meets Sakari, a hot newcomer to Nightshade with a taste for danger. Will Sakari change Hunter’s bad luck, or will he only mean more trouble? Can Sakari help him solve his case? And how will Hunter explain the new man in his life to his blender?
