Are you ready to see another cover? There will be a few in the near future…more than a few. We have some intense publishing ahead LOL

Since I’ve decided to turn my old Nortown into Up North stories, I wanted them all to be able to be read as stand-alones. From the beginning that’s been my goal with the Up North books, so we’ve lumped all Aiden and Tristan stories together into one.

Aiden and Tristan includes:

Once in a Snowstorm
The Empty Egg
Happy Endings
Just Words

All in all, we end up with about 46k of Aiden and Tristan shenanigans. I always meant to write one more shorty where Tristan proposed to Aiden, but I’m not good at wedding stuff and now it’s gone so long since I wrote them, so I’m no longer in their heads if that makes sense.

Aiden and Tristan are more cliché than the other couples in the Up North stories. It’s babbly city guy vs grumpy lumberjack. There is size difference, age difference, sensible clothing vs designer clothes, and I included lines like ‘Oh, so responsive’ and other fine sentences you only find in a certain kind of stories LOL

I had so much fun writing these stories, and I know it sometimes sounds as if I’m putting them down, but Aiden and Tristan are characters who are very dear to me.

Blurb:

Daring a snowstorm might not be the smartest thing Aiden Evans has ever done, but he can’t stand being in his flat a moment longer. With only three days to Christmas, he doesn’t want to be alone. He wants a place to belong, wants people around him who won’t look down on him. He might not find that at his mother’s place, but it’s better than being alone in the city. If he can make it there, that is. 

Tristan Gardner is looking forward to a quiet night in front of the TV, but instead, he has to save an idiot in designer clothes from freezing to death in his forest. Tristan tries not to notice the man’s good looks, just like he has tried not to notice any man’s good looks for the last seven years. He knows where relationships go and is far better off living alone, with his dog, in his cabin. 

Aiden is driving Tristan mad with his bratty comments and irresponsible ways, and Aiden is going crazy from Tristan’s judgmental attitude. Luckily, in a few days, the weather will clear up, and the two men won’t have to be together any longer. But will a few steamy nights with the grumpy lumberjack change Aiden’s mind about wanting to leave? And will Tristan still want to go back to his peaceful, predictable life without fear of getting his heart broken?

I have a cover! There will be some intense publishing ahead when my previously published stories will come back up. This is one of them. Pet Delivery used to be Once in the Underworld, but I never liked that title, so now I’ve changed it.

All stories taking place in Nortown started with Once but now when I’m turning them into Up North stories, I figured it doesn’t need to start with Once (no other Up North story does), so I changed it.

Pet Delivery is about Chris, the owner of the grocery shop in Nortown, and Gabriel, an unfortunate guy who happens to witness a murder and now has to stay hidden while awaiting trial. The police hide him in Nortown.

All Gabe wants is to be at home with his cats. The cold cabin the cops has put him in is horrible, and he has nothing to do. Chris feels sorry for the guy his cousin has hidden away in their gran’s old cabin. It’s not suitable for staying in during the winter and Chris fears the man will freeze to death unless he’s there to take care of him.

When the poor man shows up in his shop looking to buy clothes, Chris’s heart melts, despite the freezing temperature. Gabriel notices the way the shopkeeper looks at him, but it can’t be right. No one looks at a heavyset man with heat in their eyes. Do they?

Hi, I’m K.L. Noone, and I write a lot of historical and paranormal m/m (and sometimes f/f) romance! Ofelia has been kind enough to let me drop by to introduce my new flash fiction short story, “A Sonnet for a Thunderstorm,” available now!

“Sonnet” is historical m/m, set in 1770, and very loosely steampunk, in a way—featuring poet Tom and his retired pirate Ellis, with a domestic moment at home, and discussions about thunderstorms and submarines. The seeds of this story actually came from a conversation with a friend, many years ago, and a discussion about my writing inclinations and a J.D. Salinger quote—the one about how “poets are always taking the weather so personally,” from Nine Stories. The immediate image in my head involved Georgian waistcoats and dressing gowns, an ex-pirate and his poet standing together at a tall rain-lashed window, keeping each other warm and gazing out over a storm-whipped lake…entirely Romantic, and irresistible!

The submersible ideas that Ellis is pondering in “Sonnet” were already circulating around this time period—both the Dutch and the American colonies were coming up with promising designs, and the first military submersible appears in 1775, during the American Revolutionary War. It’s called the Turtle (sometimes the American Turtle) and there’s a fascinating history of it by Roy R. Manstan and Frederic J. Frese: Turtle: David Bushnell’s Revolutionary Vessel. The idea, of course, is even older—some of the medieval Alexander romances describe Alexander the Great traveling under the sea in a glass vessel! I love imagining what that might’ve been like, and what those inventers and poets of centuries ago would’ve imagined, in their time and for the future.

I always write with music in mind, and two of the songs on my playlist for this one are Live’s “Lightning Crashes” and Cary Brothers’ “Blue Eyes”—both so evocative of mood and emotion. I think Tom, my poet, and Ellis, my pirate, would like both.
