Monster Monday

We’re continuing towards Halloween. Quite frankly, I don’t know why I’m making a thing about Halloween, we don’t celebrate it here. But, I do like paranormal stories and I do like stories with a bit of an edge, and when the organisation devil digs his claws into me I have a hard time letting an idea go.

So since I figured I’d organise my ‘monster books’ in time for Halloween, I’m organising my monster books in time for Halloween.

In the name of alliteration, we’re going with Monster Monday today. Finding a monster book was actually quite hard. Most often it’s the character thinking he’s a monster when in the end it turns out he’s just a plain old shifter or something like that.

But, a little while ago someone in my Instagram feed posted a picture about an M/M Halloween Short Story Giveaway. I figured I’d check it out and there is a story written by K.A. Merikan called Jack Addison vs. Man-Ravishing Spider.

This is another case of me not reading what kind of book it is I’m getting myself into LOL. I’m terrible, I didn’t even read the entire title until now when I was gonna write it here. Jack Addison I knew since it’s written in large letters on the cover, then I read the first line of the blurb where it said monster hunter and thought my chances of finding a monster was pretty high.

I was a bit surprised when there was a huge spider (though looking at the cover again it’s quite evident there is a spider).

But it’s a great fit for Monster Monday! Jack is the son a famous monster hunter and he’s off to slay Loch Ness. He flies to Scottland from New York and ends up in a fight with a chat on arrival.

Then the hunt begins and Jack sneaks off on his own – not a good idea. Inside a cave, he runs into a giant spider. Now, this story is tagged as erotica, so I’ll just leave the rest to your imagination…

This is the first time I’ve encountered spider-human sex and I think I could’ve gone a whole life without and not feel that I was missing out. But if you want to broaden your horizons, go for it!

Jack Addison vs. Man-Ravishing Spider is part of the Halloween Giveaway that ends on November 2nd. On November 3rd and onwards you’ll find it here:

Jack Addison. Son of a famous monster hunter. Grandson of a celebrated inventor. He has a lot to live up to, but his ego is as big as the expectations of his family. At just nineteen, he’s fresh out of a prestigious academy, set to make a name for himself in a world where people need protection from strange and dangerous creatures.

During the annual hunt for the Loch Ness monster, Jack finds a rival in Roux Chat-Bonnes, a cat-like being who recently joined the same profession and is set to steal the bounty–and fame–from under Jack’s nose.

Jack won’t let that happen. He sets out on the hunt alone, but the creature that he finds in the cave near Loch Ness doesn’t have tentacles. Instead, it’s got hairy legs, eight black eyes and a taste for human flesh.

Genre: M/M romantic erotica, horror-comedy

Dead Men Don’t Wash

I guess there’s truth in the title…

I’ve read Dead Men Don’t Wash by Ally Blue. It’s one of those stories I’ve seen swish by in my feed now and then, and I guess the title stuck with me. The reason I read it now is that I downloaded Still Waters by Alex Gabriel. Goodreads keep recommending to me so I thought I just have to read it, but when I downloaded it I tried to remember what that other book with water I’ve meant to read was LOL.

Dead Men Don’t Wash is one of the craziest stories I’ve read. We have tentacles, vampires, demons, Sherlock Holmes, and soap made of a dead man. I’m glad I didn’t read any reviews before reading it. If I had I probably would’ve skipped it.

I’m not big menage. To each their own is my motto in life, but I tend to stay away from menage books, two pairs of limbs are quite enough to keep track of…and here we have tentacles as well. But, this story is so crazy Ms Blue could’ve thrown in as many people as she’d wanted to and I still would’ve read it.

Don’t read this if you’re looking for something serious or touching, but if you’re in the mood for a few laughs and in my case a little cringing and some staring at the screen with bulging eyes, then go ahead.

I didn’t download it, I don’t think it’s available in the shops, but it’s up on Ally Blue’s website.

I’m putting this in my shifter collection. To see what other shifter stories I’ve read, click here.

The story prompts for the author were:
1. part of the setting ~ a public swimming pool in a small country town
2. some background to one of the main protags ~ one of them is a wereoctopus
3. another character/s ~ an amateur private detective who thinks he is Sherlock Holmes
4. a conflict ~ soap
5. an object/phrase to be mentioned in the story somewhere ~ ‘It’s not easy being a twink’ sung to Kermit’s ‘It’s not easy being green’

Five Fangs Friday

I went searching for a vampire book so I could write a post about vampires. Then I had this awesome idea of listing my top five M/M vampire stories, you know, in time for Halloween and all. Only…I did that last year, and I just realised that a year has gone by and I’d still say the same thing.

So I went with my first idea and hopped onto Amazon and grabbed a vamp book – Warlock’s Cove by Jade Astor. It was on the one hour list so I figured I’d just make myself a cup of coffee and snuggle up on the sofa (sounds way more peaceful than it is, add four kids to the picture and you’re getting closer to the reality.)

I didn’t check any reviews, saw that there was a (Part 1) after the title, but figured it was the book 1 in a series so we’d get to the end of something. I liked the beginning, was getting into the story, it was starting to build towards something, and then it ended – nothing resolved. I wouldn’t mind paying 1.29 (yes, I checked) for Part 2, but I fear nothing will be resolved in that part either…

So, back to the five vampire reads recommendation! LOL

Hunter of Demons! Have you read Hunter of Demons by Jordan L. Hawk? If not, do. I absolutely adored Gray, and it’s a little different from your normal vampire story.

Spirit Sanguine by Lou Harper, because everyone needs a vegetarian, cross-dressing vampire in their lives, and Gabe, the vampire slayer, needs it more than most.

Manikin by Jordan Castillo Price. Manikin is the third story in the Channeling Morpheus series and you should read the first two before reading this, but it’s my favourite so I’ll list it here. Everyone needs to read about the horrors of Marushka’s pretty things.

Pretty Monsters by Andrea Speed. Josh is selling frozen burritos to zombies and lizard-monsters, and then there is Hot Guy who comes in the evenings… I loved this short story, but just a little while ago I went to pick up book #2 and realised it’s no longer available. I hope they’ll be back. They were originally published by Riptide, so maybe it is that the rights have been given back to Andrea Speed and that she will release them anew at some point…hopefully.

The Vampire’s Werewolf Bodyguard by Liv Ryder. Simon is a vampire who just survived an assassin trying to take him out, to make himself safer while figuring out who’s behind the attack, he hires Cody, a werewolf. Vamps and weres aren’t friends, and Cody isn’t exactly in control of his wolf. I nice werewolf/vampire story.

I haven’t read that many M/M vampire stories, way fewer than I thought I had, but here’s a page where you can see what I have so far. I also realise that I need to write one, at least LOL.
