Friday Reads | Embraced Chained in Darkness

I like dark and gritty, I don’t necessarily crave erotica or BDSM, but I read it every now and then. My favourite reads are dark, so I keep an eye on The Dark Arts M/M Erotica, a blog that reviews dark M/M books. A while back I saw a post about Embraced: Chained in Darkness by Nicholas Bella, a free dark erotica novelette. I downloaded it, and now I’ve finished it.

This was not for me. I see that many readers out there love this little story, but it did not work for me. I was too caught up in the speech tags and epithets to feel anything at all for the MC I’m afraid, and simply because someone says fuck/fucking every other sentence doesn’t mean they’re all that tough. I’m quite generous with the curses when I write (and speak) but this is the first time I’ve wished a story had been kept ‘cleaner’, and it made me wonder how many times my editor rolls her eyes while editing out the offensive parts in my writing LOL.

If you like your characters to cuss a blue streak while being turned into a reluctant vampire sub give this a try. There is a whole series out there so check it out. I have a feeling there’ll be some bloody fun in the following ones.

Book cover Embraced Chained in Darkness by Nicholas BellaI’ve been betrayed by someone I trusted. Because of him, I was captured by my loathed enemy: The vampires. Right now, the sun is still high in the sky, but I know when it sets, I’m as good as dead. They can’t wait to get their fangs into me. I guess some would say I have it coming. I did raise a lot of hell with my Resistance crew, and I was planning on raising a hell of a lot more at dawn before I was sold out by Jonah. The vampires, werewolves and dragons, have been trying to track me down for months and I’d always been two steps ahead of them.
*Laughs* I guess my number is up. I just hope they make it quick. You see, the vampires in my reality aren’t the romantic lot you read about in books. They don’t sparkle or hang out at high schools with their teenage girlfriends. Hell no, vampires are brutal, calculating, sadistic and bloodthirsty. As a matter of fact, all of the monsters are! That’s how they were able to take over the world so easily and change an entire civilization to suit their needs. Whatever happens, I know it’s not going to be pretty, so I’m preparing myself for the worst. May God help me.
Warning: This novelette series contains hardcore sexual situations between men, not meant for sensitive eyes. I’m talking crude, lewd and full of attitude. This series will most likely either offend you or get ya revved up. This series isn’t going to be pulling any punches whatsoever, so you’ve been warned. Mature Adult Content meant for readers looking for something dark, taboo, sexy, and unapologetic in their paranormal erotica. This is NOT a romance. This novelette is approximately 13300 words.

Friday Reads | Hunter of Demons

This has not been a good reading week for me. I have abandoned two books, and I hardly ever abandon any. I admit to not really knowing what the books were about before I started reading them—still trying to clean up a bit in my library—but still. Therefore, it felt so good to fall back on something reliable. Jordan L. Hawk is that to me. I haven’t read anything by her I haven’t enjoyed.

Hunter of Demons is the first story in the SPECTR series. Caleb is an unregistered paranormal person who hides what he is, but when his brother’s corpse is walking away from the funeral home he gets more problems to think about than stay hidden.

There is never a dull moment in this story, I really like it and can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Happy reading!

Book Cover Hunter of DemonsUnregistered paranormal Caleb Jansen only wants a normal life. But when a demon murders his brother, Caleb knows he has to avenge Ben’s death, no matter what the cost. Unfortunately, his only allies belong to an extremist group who would kill Caleb if they found out about his talent.

Gray is a wandering spirit, summoned to hunt and destroy demons by drinking their blood. This hunt goes horribly wrong, and for the first time in his existence Gray is trapped in a living, human body. Caleb’s body…and Caleb is still in it.

Hotshot federal agent John Starkweather thinks he’s seen it all. But when he’s called to exorcise Caleb, he finds a creature which isn’t supposed to exist outside of stories. For Gray is a drakul: a vampire.

Having spent his life avoiding the government as an unregistered ‘mal, Caleb can’t let himself trust a federal exorcist, no matter how sexy. And he certainly isn’t going to give into the heat growing between them and sleep with Starkweather.

Can Starkweather win Caleb’s trust and convince him he isn’t the enemy? Can Caleb keep Gray under control, as the drakul experiences the temptation of a living body for the first time?

Because if he fails and Gray gives in to bloodlust, Starkweather will have no choice but to kill them both.
