Friday Reads | The Omega Series

I was in the mood for some silly PNR. It happens to me every now and then, and I’ll admit to the healing power of sperm being my guilty pleasure when it comes to romance tropes. My favourite monster is the vampire. I’m not a big fan of the soulmate thing that often comes with werewolves but if it’s done well I’ll cope LOL. But werewolves weren’t what I was looking for when I stumbled upon Trouble (Omega #1) by Eileen Glass.

Looking for werewolves or not, I finished it in one go. Then I went on to buy the next, and the next, then I hesitated a little before I bought the next. That’s where I stopped. It’s the classic scared Omega who is picked up by an alpha who’s actually nice even though Alphas are arseholes in general. The four stories I read were all a constant build-up to the claiming that will happen sometime in the future.

I’m willing to bet my life many will love this series. It’s hot, and the characters are nice even though I’d like to hit them at times. The reason I didn’t buy the next book in the series is that I grew a little tired. I’m quite impressed, though. The last story I read was Upended (Omega #4) and that’s  86 pages of sex, more or less. I doubt I could write that.

I really like the covers, too. Most often with werewolf stories, you get the naked torso with a wolf in the background. It’s all good, you know what you’re getting into, but these covers are classier and that was what made me click the buy button in the first place.

If you’re into Alphas and Omegas, check this series out. The first book Trouble (Omega #1) is free, so you have nothing to lose.

Alluring but barren, omega is an unfortunate affliction Skye is trying to outrun. He gets away with it for several years, fleeing to a new city whenever the wolves get too close, but his survival mechanism creates a terrible, unforeseen result. By dodging and ducking every rogue alpha to approach him, the one that finally keeps up is the size of a truck. Liam is not a wolf to be disrespected, and Skye is all too aware of his place in the pack. Natural selection has never been kind to him.

But, strangely, Liam sort of is.

Friday Reads | Not My Wolf

Friday again! I can’t remember what I did last Friday but I must have done something since I didn’t write a post…or rather I didn’t do anything since I didn’t write a post. I’ve had days these last weeks when I haven’t even started my computer, can you imagine? I can’t.

I’ve just finished reading Eden Cole’s Not My Wolf. When I went to google Eden Cole I realised none of their books are available, all the web pages I’ve found links to have been taken down, and I’m left with the feeling of having missed something. What author would remove 47 published stories without reason? There is probably a reason…

I thought I’d read Eden Cole before this but when I went through my list I couldn’t find any.

As far as mate-finding shifter books go it wasn’t half bad, it’s not really my kind of story, but it’s been sitting on my e-reader for ages and I’ve been trying to do a bit of a spring cleaning by reading books I haven’t got around to earlier.

It’s a short GFY, love at first sight kind of tale, so yeah not my usual kind of book but perfect for a slow morning with a nice cup of coffee.

Update: Eden Cole’s books are available again.

As Alpha of his Rocky Mountains fenrir wolf pack, Corey has a lot on his plate. He thinks things are only getting better when his erotic dreams indicate he’s about to meet his mate. His Beta and best friend invites him on a double date, and Corey agrees, hoping this woman will be his one. To his shock and disbelief, he’s attracted to her brother instead—the big, muscular, overbearing man with a southern drawl. Corey refuses to believe that this cowboy is the one meant to be his mate, but the way his body reacts to one touch is making it hard for him to deny. Devin is aggressive, combative, and he won’t listen to any of Corey’s commands. They butt heads constantly, that is when Corey’s not trying to resist Devin’s hard body. But when Devin gets into trouble with a rival pack, Corey will move heaven and earth to get him back and claim him for his own.

Publication of Blood on Sand

It’s been a hectic week. I’ve bought a house, Blood on Sand was published on the second of June, and today I got the news that my flash Apart From You will be included in Queer Sci-Fi’s anthology, Discovery. The e-book will be sold at different sites and at Rainbow con for fundraising and publicity purposes for QSF.

But today I wanted to talk a little about Blood on Sand, my contribution to this year’s Don’t Read in the Closet event Love is an Open Road.

BloodonSandSmallCoverZoe is an enslaved lizard shifter. Every week he has to fight in an arena much like a modern gladiator. Wojtek is the alpha of the werewolf pack running the arena, he’s also Zoe’s owner. Wojtek can’t see the lizards as anything other than pawns to be used to bring in money to the pack. But when Zoe tries to force Wojtek into killing him things change.

This yearly event is organised by Goodreads M/M Romance Group. 200 stories are published between the first of June and the first of September. And they’re all free!

If you’re a member of the group, you can go here to download them. Many of the stories make their way to Amazon and Smashwords as well.

Now to a little snippet!

Zoe fell to his knees. Every wheezing breath burned in his chest, but he couldn’t find it in himself to care. It would all be over soon. The harsh glare from the spotlight made it hard to see anything beyond the blood-soaked sand in front of him, but it didn’t matter. If he could endure only a few more seconds, a few more agonising breaths, it would all be over.

The cheering and booing turned into a buzzing sound and faded into the background. Spots swam before his eyes, and he could no longer see what was happening around him. It didn’t matter. He’d done what he set out to do, and now he would die.

His opponent coughed and gasped behind him, still crawling around, but unable to get to his feet. He would live—if his master let him. Zoe lowered his wooden shield and broken spear, and waited for the strike to come. He kept his gaze down; he didn’t need to see the top dog’s face to know he was furious. His powerful claws were probably curled around the stone railing separating the spectators from the combatants at that very moment. The heavily muscled arms, or whatever they called their forelimbs, could snap his neck. He didn’t think that would happen, though. Using his claws to rip Zoe’s throat out would be far more entertaining—and people came here to be amused. Blood splatter would fly through the air, raining down on the viewers closest to him while he twitched and bled out on the arena floor. They would cheer in their growly way, and everyone would be happy with the result. Almost everyone. Even his hazy mind could sort out that the Alpha wouldn’t be pleased.

He lowered his head and waited. Could he have done anything differently? It seemed like an awful lot of work just to get killed. He could have just cheated, stopped defending himself, but his pride wouldn’t let him. This too was cheating in a way; fights were always to the death and he hadn’t killed, nor had he been killed, yet. This felt more honourable in some way. Why he even cared, he didn’t know.

The snarls coming from the first row of the tiered seating penetrated the buzzing in his head. He didn’t understand these beasts in their changed forms, but he could sense their wrath.

What was taking them so long? It should be over by now. He’d forced their hand, and there was no other way out. They would have to kill him. If they didn’t, they would lose face, and he knew they’d never let that happen. He would’ve smiled if he’d been able to in his lizard form. But he wasn’t, and it didn’t matter anyway. It would soon be over. He would finally be free.
