As you know, I’m in Sweden. We don’t have Thanksgiving. All I know about it is what I’ve seen on TV and read in books, fiction books – I would not read a nonfiction book about Thanksgiving, sorry.
But, I tried to find a Thanksgiving story and imagine my delight when I realised R. Cooper has written one – Vincent’s Thanksgiving Date. I’m crushing a little on Ms Cooper. I haven’t read all that many stories by her (three I think) but I love her characters.
In Vincent’s Thanksgiving Date we have Vincent, a writer with social anxiety issues. Now, I know there are writers without anxiety issues (I think? I mean, I know a few writers and some of them actually like (!) people, so they exist.) but Vin is a kindred spirit and he’d fit right in with my writing buds LOL.
Cory, one of Vin’s neighbours, overhears Vin having a conversation with his sister where she cancels their Thanksgiving plans. It doesn’t take long before Cory invites Vin to come to Thanksgiving dinner at his place, he just needs Vincent to help him out with a few things – like shopping and baking and stuff.
It’s really cute how Cory flirts and how Vin reacts to the attention. I loved that Cory is a florist, what’s better than the smell of flowers? I like both characters and Cory’s friends. An adorable little read, but if you’re looking for lots of sex and love declarations, this isn’t it. In the mood for something more subtle, check it out.

Socially anxious Vincent has resigned himself to spending Thanksgiving alone this year, just him, the parade, and some pie. The last thing he expects is Cory, the handsome neighbor he’s been daydreaming about, to knock on his door with a holiday crisis of his own. Vincent would love to help him, but he’s afraid that the more time Cory spends with him, the sooner Vincent’s anxiety will drive him away.
What he doesn’t realize is that Cory finds Vincent’s gentle ways adorable and has been waiting for a chance to talk with him. Cory also firmly believes that a day like Thanksgiving should be spent with the people you want to be around–and he wants to be around Vincent. If that means pretending to need help in order to coax Vincent from his apartment, then Cory is willing to do it. The only potential hitch in the plan is Vincent himself. Can Vincent gather the courage to go after what he wants? Or will he spend his Thanksgiving exactly as he planned, with only a pumpkin pie for company?
