Friday Reads | Spy vs. Spook

I’ve been trying to do a bit of a spring cleaning on my e-reader. There are soo many books, most of them I don’t even know when I got or what they’re about. At the beginning of this week, I started reading Houseboat on the Nile by Tinnean. I’ve had it for years, even before I had my e-reader I think, but I’ve been reluctant to read it. Now, however, I needed a book starting with H for my A-Z Book Title Challenge, so I started reading. I am now more than halfway through on Not My Spook!, and not because I need a book starting with N—I don’t.

There are many things that under normal circumstances would have me if not quitting the book then at least sigh loudly—there are exclamation marks everywhere, names are crammed into dialogues at the most annoying places and where they aren’t needed, and you get to read most scenes twice both in Mann’s and Vincent’s POV—but what can I say? I’m in love with Mark Vincent. He is probably one of the most frustrating men ever made up and I love him.

So nothing came of the spring cleaning since I ended up buying more books *sigh*.

Mark Vincent is WBIS—Washington Bureau of Intelligence and Security. Quinton Mann is staunchly CIA. Mark thinks the CIA is full of dilettantes who leave him and the rest of the WBIS to clean up their messes. Quinn thinks most WBIS agents are sociopathic loose cannons. So they don’t exactly get along.

Of course, just because they don’t like each other doesn’t mean they can’t play mind games on each other. Or sleep together. But when an explosion at Mark’s apartment sends Quinn to the morgue to ID a body, he has to reevaluate his position on denial.

Highly ranked CIA officer Quinton Mann finds himself in a relationship with Mark Vincent-for exactly five days. At that point, Mark uses the excuse of going to Massachusetts for his mother’s funeral to end it. But Quinn’s a spook, and you can’t fake a faker.

Mark fears he’s getting in too deep with Quinn, hence the disappearing act. Then Quinn does something unexpected, something nobody has ever done before: he comes after Mark. Maybe being in a relationship with Quinn isn’t such a bad idea. In the meantime, something strange is going on in the intelligence community worldwide. When Quinn disappears while investigating a rogue antiterrorist organization, Mark makes up his mind. Quinn might be a spook, but he’s Mark’s spook, damn it-and once he gets Quinn home, he intends to keep him. He just has to find him first.

Friday Reads | Not My Wolf

Friday again! I can’t remember what I did last Friday but I must have done something since I didn’t write a post…or rather I didn’t do anything since I didn’t write a post. I’ve had days these last weeks when I haven’t even started my computer, can you imagine? I can’t.

I’ve just finished reading Eden Cole’s Not My Wolf. When I went to google Eden Cole I realised none of their books are available, all the web pages I’ve found links to have been taken down, and I’m left with the feeling of having missed something. What author would remove 47 published stories without reason? There is probably a reason…

I thought I’d read Eden Cole before this but when I went through my list I couldn’t find any.

As far as mate-finding shifter books go it wasn’t half bad, it’s not really my kind of story, but it’s been sitting on my e-reader for ages and I’ve been trying to do a bit of a spring cleaning by reading books I haven’t got around to earlier.

It’s a short GFY, love at first sight kind of tale, so yeah not my usual kind of book but perfect for a slow morning with a nice cup of coffee.

Update: Eden Cole’s books are available again.

As Alpha of his Rocky Mountains fenrir wolf pack, Corey has a lot on his plate. He thinks things are only getting better when his erotic dreams indicate he’s about to meet his mate. His Beta and best friend invites him on a double date, and Corey agrees, hoping this woman will be his one. To his shock and disbelief, he’s attracted to her brother instead—the big, muscular, overbearing man with a southern drawl. Corey refuses to believe that this cowboy is the one meant to be his mate, but the way his body reacts to one touch is making it hard for him to deny. Devin is aggressive, combative, and he won’t listen to any of Corey’s commands. They butt heads constantly, that is when Corey’s not trying to resist Devin’s hard body. But when Devin gets into trouble with a rival pack, Corey will move heaven and earth to get him back and claim him for his own.

Friday Reads | Daylight Again

I’ve just started Daylight Again (Hell or High Water #3) by S.E. Jakes. It’s been a long time since I’ve visited Tom and Prophet, so long that I thought I’d have a hard time getting into the story, but that wasn’t a problem.

Just as in the books before this, the things these guys do are far from logic, nowhere near reasonable, and I dare say not very believable. But, it is entertaining so who cares. There’s blood, sex, and violence with piercings, tattoos, and rude comments. What more can a girl wish for?

Before Prophet Drews can have a future, he must first put his past to rest.

Prophet Drews is a man on the edge, and he’s pulling Tom Boudreaux, his partner on the job and in real life, right over with him. When his old CO calls in a favor, Prophet asks Tom to join the off-the-grid rescue. But the mission raises all of Prophet’s old ghosts: CIA assassins, the terrorist Sadiq, and most importantly, John—traitor, former teammate, and Prophet’s first love.

To help bury those ghosts for good, Prophet and Tom gather the members of Prophet’s former SEAL team . . . and a spook named Cillian who’s been tailing Prophet for years. In the process, Prophet is forced to face his team’s shifting loyalties, ghosts who refuse to stay dead, and scariest of all, his own limitations.

With everyone’s lives in danger, Prophet and Tom must unravel a tangled knot of secrets, including their own. Prophet must decide how much to reveal to Tom, while Tom must decide how far he’s willing to go to help Prophet lay his ghosts to rest.
