Up North | 24 Dates

Christmas-Evergreen

It’s time for Christmas once again! I fear this year will be quite different from how it normally is, at least here. The government is already telling us not to make any big Christmas plans, and that there likely will be travel bans.

I guess we’ll have to stay at home and read instead.

Today, I thought I’d do a little introduction of the characters – Victor and Jian – in 24 Dates. Filling out the character cards I’ve done for all the Up North characters, I realised I haven’t said how old they are.

Victor thinks one of his colleagues is a few years older than him, around forty. So I guess Victor and Jian are around thirty-five LOL

Unlike the other Up North stories, we’re starting with an established couple. Victor and Jian have been together for years. Two years ago, they bought a house and moved to Northfield, but it made Jian’s commute longer. He leaves early in the morning and isn’t home until late in the evening, and they hardly see each other awake anymore.

Something has to change.

While Victor mostly walks around and feels sorry for himself, Jian sets out to save their relationship, and he does so by planning 24 dates, starting on December 1st and going all the way up till the 24th.

Now, what qualifies as a date? The opinions about that might differ.

Jian-Kouri Victor-Hilll

24datesWhen Victor Hill bought a house with his boyfriend, Jian Kouri it was a dream come true. But now, two years later, instead of living their happily ever after, they hardly see the other awake.

With Jian out the door before Victor gets up in the morning, and asleep on the couch nearly as soon as he walks in the door, the life Victor imagined couldn’t be further from reality. They don’t talk; they don’t touch, and Victor fears he and Jian have already drifted too far apart.

The holiday season is a time for hope, but when Victor comes home to find Jian with a plan to woo him for Christmas, is it too little, too late? The dates are great, and there are filled with Christmas fun to get Victor in the right spirit for the holiday, but are they enough for the two of them to fall in love again? Or is there just too much in their relationship that needs fixing?

Cover Reveal | 24 Dates

Do you want to see what I have??

On the second of December, 24 Dates will be released. It will be the sixth story in the Up North series – so stand-alone, contemporary, and taking place somewhere up north.

This time we’re in Northfield. Victor and Jian used to live in Courtland, but two years ago they moved to Northfield. It was supposed to be all roses and rainbows, but it hasn’t been like that at all.

Victor fears their relationship won’t last much longer. He hardly ever seen Jian awake anymore – they don’t talk, they don’t touch, and everything feels hopeless. Until Jian surprises him with a date on the first of December.

So we’re having us a Christmas story, and the plot goes like this:

  • December 1st: Surprise outdoor date

  • December 2nd: Suprise indoor date

  • December 3rd: Suprise date in public place

  • December 4th: Suprise car date

  • December 5th: Suprise wet outdoor date

  • December 6th: Suprise sport date

  • December 7th: Suprise food date

  • December 8th: Not really a surprise date in a public place

  • December 9th: Not really a surprise lunch date

  • December 10th: Not really a surprise movie night date

  • December 11th: Not really a surprise outdoor date

  • December 12th: Competition date

Where You Lead

It’s no secret I’m a Mary Calmes fan, and luckily for me, she writes a lot and I always save her books for when I’m in a ‘Calmes mood’, and now I was in a Calmes mood LOL. Where You Lead is a rather short story about Peter and Carver.

We get their background story, how they met, and how things were before they did, and it’s all in traditional Calmes possessiveness. But when we’re dropped into the story Peter and Carver are going to celebrate Christmas with Carver’s parents, the only problem is that Carver intends to stay there. His mother is poorly and his father needs help taking care of her. He’s been too afraid to tell Peter until now, though.

He needs Peter to move there with him, needs it.

Peter is heartbroken, he loves Carver but he also loves his job and moving to a small town with all the nosy people getting in everyone’s business isn’t at all what he had planned in life. But can he survive a long-distance relationship? Can the relationship survive long distance? And really is his life in the city more important than Carver and his family? And so typical Carver to spring this on him now, like this.

If you’re looking for a cosy little Christmas read, this is for you. I loved it!

Where You LeadATF agent Peter Lomax isn’t a hearts and flowers kind of guy, but he can be possessive, and it caused problems until Carver Fleming. Carver may be part of the art world, but he gets Peter, loves belonging to the man, and Peter treasures the way Carver understands them together.

Carver loves Peter, but he’s fully aware that six months doth not a commitment make. He wants to do it with Peter by his side, but going from the city of Chicago to tiny Colt, Kentucky is a big change.
