New Addiction by April Kelley

I was in the mood for some growly bears – I know, but sometimes I want bear shifters. Don’t judge! I was searching on Amazon, and while I sometimes want growly bears, I tend to avoid dragons. Don’t ask me why, if I can buy a guy turning into a bear, wolf, panther or whatever, I should be fine with one turning into a dragon, but eh…

After some contemplating, I decided to give New Addiction (Wingspan 1) by April Kelley a try. It’s dragons, yes, but there is a bear, too. A growly, grumpy, pig-headed bear.

I’m glad I read this, it wasn’t exactly what I was after, but it held my attention. I was a bit annoyed by the characters’ inability to compromise, but they’re dragons and bears – what do you expect?

Caerwyn, our dragon, has a lot of family problems to deal with. Rory, our bear, is afraid to lose his freedom. There is some friction between them, but as the problems around them escalate, they learn to work together.

There are some loose ends, a vampire problem that isn’t solved among other things, but it’s the first in a series, so I guess answers will come later on.

If you’re into dragons, give it a go!

New AddictionThe first time Caerwyn meets his mate, it ends with rejection, growling, and bear shifters…oh, my!

After his parents die in a tragic car accident, dragon shifter Caerwyn Lewis doesn’t know how to grieve properly, not that he really has time. He has siblings that are relying on him to pay off the debt their parents incurred on the farm. Also, he has a brother who isn’t taking their parents’ death well. The last thing he needs is a distraction, but that’s what he gets when his Alpha calls him in to help another neighboring shifter town. The distraction comes in the form of a handsome but grumpy bear shifter named Rory.

Unconditionally

Unconditionally by Nell Iris

Unconditionally is part of the Love Wins series – a series that started back in 2016 to celebrate marriage equality in the US. It’s published by JMS-Books, and I do believe there have been some new stories added to the series this year.

I’ve talked about my wedding more than once, so I won’t describe it again (we were out of the courthouse by the time the ceremony was supposed to start, and we spent our wedding night in a hospital).

Let’s just say that when it comes to weddings, I don’t give a damn about how it’s done as long as I don’t have to attend – yes, I’m a true romantic LOL.

So, I’m gonna be completely honest and say that I didn’t plan on reading this one. But, then I opened the book, and I fell in love with Luca. I didn’t mean for it to happen. Really, I was just having a peek. Weddings *snort*

I loved it! It’s super cute. Luca has a mother from hell who doesn’t deserve all the chances Luca is giving her IMO. But lucky for him, he also has Gustav.

Gus is a calm, caring presence, who loves Luca unconditionally. I also loved that he didn’t give up until he’d found the perfect ring.

Adorable!

I went snooping around on Ms Iris’ blog, and I found a bonus scene. Now, don’t read it before you’ve read the story, but once you’ve had, you’ll find it here.

UnconditionallyFlamboyant book café owner Luca Moretti and geeky doctor Gus Hansen have been together for six years when the Supreme Court ruling makes same-sex marriage legal in all states. On June 26, 2015, Gus gets down on one knee and Luca screams yes.

On their wedding day, shortly before the ceremony, Luca’s mother explodes in anger, calling him a freak. The reason? He’s wearing a white veil, sprinkled with crystals.

Their relationship has been strained for a long time, and her words trigger traumatic memories. Instead of walking down the aisle, Luca runs.

Away from his mother. Away from Gus.

Gus counts down the minutes when Luca’s mother comes knocking. He realizes something’s wrong, but when he goes to talk to Luca, his husband-to-be is nowhere to be found.

Can Gus find Luca in time and manage to convince him to come back and get married?

When Victor Hill bought a house with his boyfriend, Jian Kouri it was a dream come true. But now, two years later, instead of living their happily ever after, they hardly see the other awake.

With Jian out the door before Victor gets up in the morning, and asleep on the couch nearly as soon as he walks in the door, the life Victor imagined couldn’t be further from reality. They don’t talk; they don’t touch, and Victor fears he and Jian have already drifted too far apart.

The holiday season is a time for hope, but when Victor comes home to find Jian with a plan to woo him for Christmas, is it too little, too late?
