Must Read Monday

I’m doing a #DiscoverMMRomance Challenge on Instagram, and on the 15th the prompt was Fave MM Rereads. I quickly listed a few stories that I’ve read more than once, created a square picture out of six covers and thought that’ll do.

But after having posted those six stories, I started thinking. I re-read books when I’m after something special, in the mood for something particular. My go-to books are of different genres and lengths, and I appreciate different things in them.

Then I started wondering about all the books I’ve read and loved but never once considered re-reading. Why do I read some books several times and others just once when I might like the ones I’ve only read once more than some books I’ve read several times? I have no idea, must be that I wish to surround myself with the atmosphere of a certain book…maybe.

I thought I’d make a list post, not of my favourite books perhaps, but of my go-to re-reads. So here we go… It’s a little like baring my soul, now you’ll have a list of my guilty pleasures LOL.

10 of Ofelia’s go-to M/M Romance re-reads

BloodravenBloodraven by P.L. Nunn. Awesome, gruesome, bloody and cruel. This book is tagged as taboo erotica. I don’t consider myself to be a reader of taboo erotica…except when we’re talking about Ogres. Yhalen is captured, raped, tortured, and forced to be a slave. His master is a monster, at least he thinks so at first.

Yakuza Pride Yakuza Pride by H.J. Brues. Yakuza – we’re talking tattoos and violence and Japan. We have a scary mob boss who falls in love with an illustration of children’s books.

The Last Pure HumanThe Last Pure Human by Twisted Hilarity. This is online fiction, free fiction, and sadly it’s a WIP that probably never will be completed. But we have a cat-alien who needs to mate or he’ll die, and the only one available is a small creature of unknown race.

Bone Rider While we’re on the subject of Sci-Fi, we’ll go to Bone Rider by J. Fally. This is such an amazing book. Riley figures out his boyfriend is an assassin for the Russian mob and runs. At first, it goes well, but then an alien armour system hijacks his body and all of sudden he’s on the run from both the Russian mob and the military. I love this book.

Between Sinners and SaintsBetween Sinners and Saints by Marie Sexton. That I have this as a recurring re-read is a bit strange. Usually, I don’t touch books with religious themes, not if I can avoid it, but I guess this is the exception that proves the rule. Levi is a Mormon but since being gay isn’t accepted he leaves his family behind and spends his days surfing and sleeping around until he meets Jamie. The only problem is that Jamie refuses to go out with him.

Out of the BlacknessOut of the Blackness by Carter Quinn. Child abuse and years in foster care has left Avery with crippling anxiety. He doesn’t want to be around people, and he doesn’t get why Noah, a tall, broad-shouldered man, insists on having his lunch at Avery’s workplace or why he keeps coming back to talk to Avery.

Rarely Pure and Never SimpleRarely Pure & Never Simple by Angel Martinez. Another man who also wants to be left alone is Damien. But when children are going missing, he’s called into work since he’s a locator, a human GPS, and as if that isn’t bad enough, he has to work with Blaze a sparker with a violent temper. Blaze can’t help but be intrigued by Damien.

Rarely Pure & Never Simple is no longer available, but I have a copy so I can read it as many times as I want to, ha!

A Matter of Time A Matter of Time by Mary Calmes. Sometimes I just need a Sam and Jory fix, simple as that. Sam is the alpha male, the cop, the protector, and Jory is the flighty little thing who just gets into trouble wherever he goes. Perhaps not the most original set up, but if it ain’t broken don’t fix it.

ProtectionProtection by S.A. Reid and T. Baggins ( they’re one and the same…and have more names too :D). Prison – cold, dark, violence, rape in the shower, sadistic doctor and an ending that makes me cry my eyes out. There is no HEA here, this book wrecks me.

Freighter FlightsFreighter Flights by Drew Zachary. This is one of those books that I’ve read several times. It’s not that good, and yet there is something that pulls me in. Will is a pilot, Tab, his mechanic, and most often they shout at each other and then end up kissing and then goes back to shouting and so on.

Another book that isn’t available anymore.

The Red KingThe Red King by Rosemary O’Malley. This is another one that really isn’t my usual kind of read. I don’t read many historicals, but damn this book is so good, and dark, and intense.

That makes 11, right? Ah, well, why limit yourself?

What are your fave re-reads?
