A while ago I wrote a post about my favourite re-reads and one of the books I listed was Freighter Flights by Drew Zachary. Since I wrote that post I’ve been thinking about that book, so now I re-read it for…I think maybe the fourth time.
The funny thing is, it’s not the best book I’ve ever read, not by a long shot. It’s smut through and through, and they just happen to be in space while it happens. I can’t label it as anything other sci-fi, but the plot isn’t sci-fi-y at all.
Will is the pilot on a spaceship, that’s about as sci-fy-y as it gets LOL.
I can’t tell you why I like this book. I’m not one to read erotica very often. I like plot, I really do, and here we have sex in almost every chapter, and when they aren’t having sex, they’re fighting. No great character development, no great problem to solve.
I guess it’s my love for the healing power of sperm trope. Will has had a rough past, he’s past sexual experiences hasn’t been good at all, and he expects Tab to treat him like shit too. Tab doesn’t, but he is a growly, grumpy man, and he shouts a lot at Will. But he wants Will in his bed, and he makes sure to lure him there more often than not.
Freighter Flights isn’t available anymore, but since I’m a sucker for hurt-comfort books and like my sci-fi (both this kind and the kind that is a little more sci-fi-y, though not too technical, you lose me if it’s too much sci-fi LOL). Since you can’t get this one (unless you already own a copy) you can always check out my sci-fi collection for something similar…or why not go with some healing power of sperm, the best cure there is!
Will is the hot shot pilot and second in command on the Arillia, a pretty little cargo ship making runs just this side of legal. When they lose their engineer, Will goes on the hunt in spacedock for a new one. What he finds is Tab, a gruff, scarred man who can get the job done. For Tab, the Arillia is a job, a good one at that, and if the pilot makes him growl and want more than he should, well it sure beats starving. The sparks fly between them and they begin to care, whether they want to or not. If they can survive their pasts, space pirates and nearly being blasted out of space, they just might be able to survive each other.
