I’m a sucker for hurt-comfort stories so I thought I’d have me a little peek at The Right Words (Right and Wrong #1) by Lane Hayes.
Luke has managed to get out of an abusive relationship and is trying to build a new life for himself as an interior designer. He can’t believe his luck when he is offered to remodel Michael Martinez’s – the famous soccer player (the rest of the world calls it football, but whatever) – beach house.
But things don’t always turn out the way you first think, and Mikael’s girlfriend has failed to inform her fiancé that Luke is coming.
That’s not the only thing that goes wrong. It turns out the girlfriend isn’t a girl at all and he (the not girlfriend) is blackmailing Mikael. Things go from bad to worse and Luke is caught right in the middle of it all.
There are many things I liked about this story, the slow burn, the hurt-comfort, the friends around the main characters. Sadly, I didn’t like Luke all that much. He behaves like a child and more or less demands that Mikael should come out despite it meaning he might ruin his career (a bit harshly put maybe, but not too far from how it happened.)
But, when Luke wasn’t behaving like a spoiled brat, I enjoyed the story and I’m thinking I might just continue this series…

Unfortunately, Luke didn’t build a big enough closet for Michael to hide in. Having a star-powered sports career used to be all Michael lived for, but he’ll have to reevaluate his plans and find the right words if he wants to build more than a beach house with Luke.
