The Christmas Curse

I was hunting for a Christmas book, and I’ve had The Christmas Curse by Ruby Moone in my kindle library for two years I think without reading it – it was time.

I know I’m repeating myself (over and over) by saying I don’t normally read historical stories, but I do love paranormal so I figured I had nothing to lose. And I’m not sorry!

This short story is adorable.  It’s December and Jared Templeton is all alone, avoiding his families festivities because of all the young women his mother is trying to get him to marry, plus he’s a spy so he can’t really tell anyone what he does.

But then one day, a huge stray dog starts follow him home from work every day. The closer to Christmas they’re coming, the more Jared is opening up and is talking to the dog.

Then, like in Cinderella, the clock strikes twelve and Jared’s entire world changes.

I wish it had been a little longer, just a little bit more. The characters are great but the ending a bit abrupt. Still, a great Christmas read, though! Historical and all LOL.

For years my reader friends have been raving about Josh Lanyon, read every book she’s released and so on, and I’ve never understood the frenzy. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed the Lanyon books I’ve read, but they haven’t turned into a squealing fangirl. I’ve picked up a few books here and there, done a few buddy reads, and her writing is good, the mysteries entertaining, but when I’ve closed the book I’ve forgotten about it.

But I get it now... Winter is freaking fabulous! I loved this story so much.

Here we have a creepy old house, a main character who is so lost in his grief he is beginning to fade from the world, and a haunted mirror. The story might not be filled with surprises but damn it sent shivers down my spine LOL.

I’m so glad this is the first book in a series because I want more of Flynn and Kirk…and I want to know more about all the stuff hidden away in the basement…and Kirk, of course. There is definitely something tragic in Kirk’s past. Plus any story mentioning shrunken heads is awesome, it’s just the way it is.

If you haven’t read this is looking for something to get you in the mood for Halloween, pick this up!  You won’t be disappointed.

For today’s post, I’ve read Marked (Northern Shifters #1) by Joely Skye. The last pages I read clutching the phone so I wouldn’t drop into the pots on the stove while I was making dinner LOL.

I was in the mood for a werewolf story so when I saw this in my stack of books (list of ebooks LOL) I figured it’d fit the bill. A year ago Alec was drugged and attacked by a group of werewolves, he doesn’t remember much, but he does remember them, and despite what anyone else might say about his sanity, he has the scars to prove it. Now he hides in the library where he works and never goes outdoors after dark and never ever if there is a full moon.

Liam is a werewolf, an alpha, who will do anything to protect his little brother, Ira, who was abducted by a group of nasty werewolves. Together with some friends, he managed to save his little brother, but the incident has changed Ira. The eight-year-old is scared and insecure and has a hard time trusting people so when he connects with the man working in the library Liam goes to have a sniff around.

Alec is Liam’s mate, but the scars mark him as prey, and Liam knows it’s only a matter of time before the group of rough wolves will come back to take his mate and little brother away from him.

I enjoyed this, liked the plot, but I was a bit confused at times, a little more of a background story probably would’ve helped with that. And, I know this is a series so maybe everything will be ironed out if I read the next book, but I would’ve loved to see a more solid ending. Still, an entertaining read if you’re into shifters.

Sadly it looks like this book no longer is available and when looking around, I can’t find anything about Joely Skye either.

Liam will do everything in his power to protect both his brother and Alec from the wolves, even if it means calling in favors and killing those with whom he once ran. Because Alec, like it or not, is Liam’s chosen mate.
