Friday Reads | A Late Bite To Eat

Back in April, I read The Poison Within by Kasia Bacon and now there is a little sequel! A Late Bite to Eat (Inspector Skaer #1.5) is just a short ten pages long, but it still had me giggling. It’s told in Eryssa von Brenn’s POV and if you’ve read The Poison Within you know Eryssa is a Furia and she is a delight LOL.

The story starts where The Poison Within ended – Eryssa is with Caylii, her partner, and since Caylii still is recovering from what happened Eryssa hasn’t left her side to feed.

She will now, though…

The poor peasant didn’t stand a chance, but at least Eryssa was kind to him.

I loved this short little story and I really hope we’ll get more of Eryssa in the future because that girl makes me laugh. I’d like to know more about Furias and their role in this world…or perhaps not this world.

Friday again and I picked up The Poison Within (Inspector Skaer, #1) by Kasia Bacon this week. It showed up everywhere in my feed on Goodreads and it turned out to be free on Amazon (it isn’t anymore, I’m afraid, but you can stand to fork out a little money for a good story).

I haven’t read anything by Ms Bacon before and I don’t normally pick books with elves. Don’t ask me why. I gladly read stories about almost every possible and impossible creature anyone can think up, but I tend to stay away from elves. I should probably add that even though there are elves it’s not heavy on ‘elf-content’ (LOL). There are humans and non-humans, conflicts and prejudice, wrongdoings and revenge. It really has a little of everything, nothing feels hurried or left out yet it’s ‘only’ fifty pages long – just how I want my stories.

This is a lovely tale about bloody coughs and creatures I know nothing about – furias might be a new favourite (are they the goddesses of revenge I think they are??) – and I would love to read the next in the series…when it comes.

I stayed up way past my bedtime reading Worth a Shot by Lyra Evans. Something about this story hooked me and I just kept on reading even though I should be sleeping.

It’s a paranormal mystery. Detective Oliver Worth is a wizard who is trying to solve a murder that looks like it’s been committed by a werewolf. When he gets into the land of the werewolves to question them, he meets Connor Pierce an alpha in Logan’s court.

I would’ve given just about anything to get Connor’s POV. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Oliver, but Connor *swoon*.

This isn’t the first werewolf/wizard story I’ve read. It isn’t even the first this month – I read The Duality Paradigm by Lia Cooper just the other week – but I had a hard time putting Worth a Shot down.

If you’re into werewolves and wizards, pick it up. There are three books in the series and I regret not buying the box set.
