Friday Reads | Thirteen: Part One

OMG! I read Thirteen: Part One (The Others Project #2) by Adrienne Wilder and I had promised myself not to, not until Part Two was out. Why did I?! *wail* Well, I know why. I really liked Seven and have been waiting for the next part of the series for ages (feels like ages at least), and every time I’ve gone through my TBR list I’ve seen that green number there.

I’m not overly big on Sci-Fi, or rather this is my kind of Sci-Fi. I tend to avoid the first contact alien invasion kind of stories but books like this grab hold of me and never let go until there is nothing left to read.

So why wait to read this book? Because it ends right in the middle, and when I say right in the middle, I mean right in the middle. I don’t think there was a single chapter ending with such a cliffhanger as the book did. There was a silent NO! bouncing around in my head when I came to the last line of the page and it said ‘End Book One.’ So now I almost wish I hadn’t read it *sigh*

It was awesome, though. I love the grittiness of the world presented and I really hope there will be more Others books…soon.

Book Cover Thirteen The Others Project by Adrienne WilderBook Two (part one) of the Other’s Project.

Quinn Farlin’s life just went from the frying pan into the fire.

All because he made one stupid mistake: he fell in love. Then he was left behind by the love of his life as payment for her freedom. Now Quinn lives as a slave to the Kent Family Empire; counterfeiting, money, paintings, rare coins, and anything else to keep his knees intact and his heart beating.

There seems to be no way out until one night a fireball falls from the sky and a mysterious voice on the phone saves his life. All the stranger asks in return is help for friend.

A friend with scars down his spine. A tattoo of the number 13 on the back of his neck. A friend who upon meeting Quinn can read his mind and watches him with adoration.

And while Quinn is convinced he’s still in love with the woman who left him, his heart has other plans.

Now it’s just a matter of staying alive; a task easier said than done, since nothing is what it seems to be, and the world he’s always known just fell down the rabbit hole.

Release Day | The Maddest of Men

I’m trying something new today. Back in the spring, I wrote this little story about a man with an angelic face and beautiful red corkscrew curls who tortures people for a living.  He is the right-hand man to a drug lord in the futuristic city Carona and everything is going well for their organisation until Creed, a government employed retrieving agent, shows up. This is the story of The Maddest of Men, and the new thing is that it is in Kindle Unlimited.

I don’t have any books in KU prior to this one but I thought it time to broaden my horizons and see what it’s like there on the other side of the fence. If I’ll be staying or not we’ll see in the future, but for now, it’s only available on Amazon.

Read a short excerpt here.

The Maddest of MenTo prove his loyalty to Cham, Grayham is willing to do anything, and he does. He helps Cham run his empire by finding out the truth by any possible means. It’s not as hard as it may seem, all he has to do is ask the right questions, and his internal polygraph will tell him if someone is lying or not. And when they lie—well he deals with that too. Life as an executioner can get quite lonely, not that Grayham plans on doing anything about it. It would kill him to have to off a lover.

Creed is a retrieving agent on a mission. He is to infiltrate one of Carona’s drug organisations to get to the inquisitor. Rumour states the man with the fiery red curls has supernatural powers; it also says anyone coming close to him disappears. Creed has no idea how he’s going to make it out alive or why his supervisor sent him in without backup. But, when an opening to work as a waiter at one of the drug lord’s parties presents itself Creed sets to work.

In a world where people compensate for the years of bombings and starvation with clinic bought physical perfection a man with crooked teeth and mismatching eyes stands out. Grayham notices the waiter watching him straight away. If he’s there to harm Cham, he’ll deal with it. Creed knows he must get his hands on the inquisitor so when he is invited to the man’s flat he agrees to come even though he knows it might be the last thing he’ll ever do.

Note: This story contains graphic violence, on page death of secondary character, and sex acts between male adults.

Affiliations, Aliens, and Other Profitable Pursuits – the reason I’m waiting for an alien to come and save me.

We’re having a birthday party here this weekend which has required some baking and cleaning on my part and add to that having a three-month-old, I’m sure you can understand the frustration this has fuelled inside of me…you see, it takes time away from Ondry.

When is a plum-coloured alien coming to claim me?

That’s what I’d like to know. I’m not usually a Sci-Fi fan but something about these tail-pulling, egg-laying creatures makes me want to lock the door and pretend I’m not home—though that’s natural behaviour for me even without Ondry to look forward to.

Affiliations, Aliens, and Other Profitable Pursuits is book #3 in the Claimings series by Lyn Gala.  Prelude to Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts (Claimings, #0.5) is free (but last time I checked it wasn’t available anymore), and then we have Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts (Claimings #1) and Assimilation, Love, and Other Human Oddities (Claimings #2). All of them are awesome!

I’m not one to read a lot of BDSM and this is labelled as such, but it’s so much more about the dynamics in Liam and Ondry’s relationship than the sex scenes we usually get to take part of in M/M BDSM books (or at least the ones I’ve read). There is no question they have a D/s relationship, though – the best kind, if you ask me.

I love the world, love how we’re lead into the Rownt culture, and I’m so glad I own these books because I will read them again. If you haven’t, give them a try!

A desire for status has brought Ondry and Liam to a human world to trade, but dealing with humans has brought up all the old pain in Liam’s heart. Even though Ondry would do anything to protect his beloved palteia, he doesn’t know how to protect Liam from himself. Worse, Ondry isn’t sure how to shield Liam from the shifting politics on the Rownt ship where the Calti Grandmothers are nothing like the ones they left behind on the planet.

With everything in their lives changing, Ondry and Liam have only each other. If Ondry can’t find a way to defend Liam from the ghosts of the past and overcome the impossibly short life span of a human, their small family might be over long before either of them is ready to let go. Ondry has always been a dominant and possessive Rownt, and with Liam in danger, those traits are necessary as he challenges the world to protect his lover.
