The Lumberjack and the Omega

Yeah so… LOL.

The thing is, I feel like I should know a little about M/M lumberjack stories since I’ve written a few. It’s not often I see them around, though, so when I was scrolling through Amazon and spotted The Lumberjack and the Omega by Canis Blackfang I stopped.

My expectations weren’t very high. It says it’s an M-preg story and while I think everyone has the right to read whatever pleases them M-preg is one thing I just don’t do – sorry. But there was the lumberjack part and I do love a good alpha/omega story, so I gave it a go.

Lex has left his pack and home behind him. He’s tired of having to do all the things expected of an omega and seeks a job up in the mountains. After an encounter with a burly man on the bus who tries to intimidate Lex, he decides to pose as an alpha in the lumberjack camp.

He soon realises it might not have been the best idea he’s ever had, and when he’s paired up with an alpha who kicks his mating instincts into high gear, yelling timber isn’t what’s on his mind.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would and while there isn’t much of a story, we have an alpha and an omega sating their urges among the fallen trees and no one got pregnant while it lasted so I’m good LOL.

Lonewolf

In the mood for some werewolves?

Today, I know what I’ve read, and that’s Lonewolf by J.L Merrow. I’ve read a few Merrow books before, but it was a long time ago now. I’ve liked all of them so why it’s gone so long I don’t know, but it’s been a couple of years, at least, since I read one.

I saw Lonewolf on Amazon on a list over short reads and picked it up. It wasn’t until I went on GR after I’d read it I realised this story has upset several readers. I’ve only read the revised version, but I understand some things have been removed or at least reworded.

Carl is in Stuttgart, and there he hooks up with a guy. It turns bloody, and Carl turns furry LOL. He sees himself as a monster and isolates himself in fear of hurting the people around him.

Years later he’s going back to search for the man who turned him, but he’s coming up empty. He finds something else…or perhaps I should say someone else, though.

I really liked the ending, it left me grinning.

This is just a short little story written to give a background story to one of the characters in Merrow’s Camwolf series. I don’t think you have to have read it to be able to enjoy Lonewolf, though – I haven’t.

Sex with a stranger can be riskier than you know… particularly if that stranger turns out to be a werewolf. A companion to — or appetiser for — my novel Camwolf.

Two years ago a casual encounter in Stuttgart left Carl changed forever. He thought he could handle being a werewolf—until he passed the curse on to his English lover, Nick Sewell.

Now Carl’s come back to Germany to look for answers from the man who made him a monster. But Stefan’s disappeared, and in his place Carl finds Christian, who may have as much to hide as Carl does—or even more.

This is a short story in the same universe as Camwolf, but with different main characters. If you’ve read the novel you may recall that Nick Sewell was turned into a werewolf three years before the start of Camwolf by his then lover, Carl Fisher. This is Carl’s story, and it’s a dark little tale.

Werewolf Wednesday

It’s Werewolf Wednesday! Not really, but it makes a good alliteration. I’m continuing my quest of trying to categorise what I’ve read, and since we’re getting closer to Halloween, I thought I’d start with the monsters.

Check out my page over read werewolf books.

I curse myself for not keeping better track. Before I grabbed my first prompt in the Don’t Read in the Closet event, which also was the first thing I ever published, I had a different Goodreads account where I used to have shelves for everything.

But starting out as a writer I had this brilliant idea of starting over – don’t do that, it was idiotic. Now I don’t know what I’ve read or when or even what I thought about the book because many books I’ve just clicked as read, no rating or anything. And some, when I look at them, I realise I have read them, but I don’t have them as ‘read’ on my GR account. So, stupid, very stupid.

I don’t know if you know, but it’s Asexual Awareness Week. So I figured we’d combine werewolves and asexuality and therefore I’ve read The Alpha and His Ace by Ana J. Phoenix. I’ve seen the cover around but I didn’t know it was a DRitC story until I read it – that means it’s free.

If you’ve read a few M/M werewolf stories you know that there most often is this insta-mating thing, but that’s just not gonna happen here. Brandon is one of the worst mama’s boys I’ve ever seen in a character, but he’s also the alpha of a werewolf pack. At the age of 25, he still hasn’t found his mate, which weakens him in the eyes of some pack members.

Then he finds him, his mate!

Only, Aidan is asexual and he has no intention of jumping into bed with a stranger who claims to be a wolf and that Aidan is his mate.

I enjoyed this story a lot despite wanting to shake the characters at times, but they worked it out. It’s a cute, quick read, and it’s different from the usual werewolf porn…erm, I mean romance, I often read. And the genre needs a little more diversity, so yay for Ms Phoenix.

…if you thought sex was better than cake, you just hadn’t met the right cake yet.

Young, handsome, and the alpha of his wolf pack, Brandon has never had trouble finding men to have sex with. Only one thing is missing–his mate. Brandon can’t find him, and the rest of his pack is growing concerned about his lack of partner. An alpha needs a strong partner.

Things seem to be looking up when he finally finds his fated companion in Aidan. One problem—Aidan’s asexual, and Brandon’s now confused. Who doesn’t want sex? Aidan, that’s who. And Brandon hasn’t got a clue how to make someone love him without it.

It’s going to take some serious self-examination, acceptance, and some really good cake for Brandon to make his way into Aidan’s heart.
