Rafael’s Haunted Halloween

Rafael’s Haunted Halloween (Hauntastic Haunts #2.5) by Alex Silver

I have no idea when I got this story, probably last year, and I had no idea it was part of a series until after I’d read it. Observant? Me? Not so much.

Now, you don’t have to read the previous books to read this one, I haven’t, and it went fabulously.

This is cute. We have a guy, Rafael, who lives alone. He lost his dog a little way back, and he spends most of his days talking to people online about paranormal stuff – ghosts mostly.

A year or so ago, Noah moved in next door, and watching him is the highlight of Rafael’s day. When Noah and his kid come trick or treating on Halloween, things start to happen.

Wierd things.

Rafael has been hearing his dog, but you imagine you do when you lost someone. Hearing her is part of the grieving process. Right?

I enjoyed this! I was a bit surprised when I realised one character was over forty, and the other over sixty, not that I mind, I love reading about grown-up people, but the cover had me confused.

After having written this, I went to search for a buy link, but I coulnd’t find it anywhere. Then I went to Alex Silver’s website, and there I found a link. This books is avaliable for free on Prolific Works.

Rafael's Haunted HalloweenLove finds a way—even if man’s best friend has to reach across the veil to make it happen.

Semi-retired, Rafael’s life is in a rut after losing his beloved dog, Marlowe. He fills his time with hobbies, but that isn’t enough to give him purpose. The longer Raf hides from the world, the less he able he is to step out of his comfort zone in pursuit of his heart’s desire.

A recently divorced father, Noah, is ready for a new relationship. He’s had his eye on his silver fox of a next-door neighbor through months of casual flirtation. If only Raf would give him an opening, he’s sure there is chemistry between them.

Halloween evening affords Noah the perfect opportunity to get past Raf’s guard. But it might take Marlowe’s help for Raf to let go of his insecurities and give love a chance.

Paranormal MM mature romance with an age gap.

Cover Reveal | Soul Eater

Can you guess what showed up in my inbox this morning? A cover!

Soul Eater is a 51k long paranormal story about  Sandulf Hunter, a dead werewolf, and Thaddeus Ezax, a useless mage – or so he believes. He comes from one of the most powerful mage families in the world, and yet he’s never been able to do even the simplest spells a mage is supposed to do. Things aren’t always what they appear to be, though.

Thad is a detective working in the Paranormal Investigations Department. He and his colleagues are trying to catch a serial killer, but when Thad comes across a spirit trapped in a skull, his life changes forever.

As he rounded a corner, he came into the main cavern. Table after table were filled with anything a magic user could need. Herbs, potions, knives, stones, and a lot of things he didn’t want to acknowledge.

The howl of a cat in a cage had blue sparks rain from his fingertips, but he tried to suppress it as he hurried past the market traders.

Pickering had the last table in the row—of course, he had. By now, Thad should have learned nothing ever went quick and easy. He held his breath as he stopped by the table.

“Thaddeus.” Pickering had short, red hair, and his face was filled with freckles.

“Einar.” Thad nodded at him.

“What can I do you for? Looking for a familiar?” He grabbed a cage with the largest toad Thad had ever seen.

“Ah… Eh… no. I was wondering—”

“A love potion?” He held up a tiny, red flask with a skull painted on it, and Thad almost laughed.

“No, thank you. Have you heard about—”

“Shrunken head?” He bent down behind the table.

“No!” Thad hoped he didn’t have a shrunken head back there. Could he ignore a shrunken head or did he have to report it at work? If a raid came out of his visit here, he’d be hunted for the rest of his life, and he did not want the wizards running the largest black market for miles and miles at his tail.

“This then?” Pickering tossed something at him, and Thad caught it. A buzz spread into his fingertips as he held up the…skull. Swallowing hard, he studied the sharp canines. The dog must’ve been massive when it had been alive.

“W-What is it?”

Pickering looked nervous as he leaned in closer and lowered his voice into a whisper. “Werewolf skull, very powerful. But I guess it’s wasted on you, mage.”

Werewolf? Was someone killing werewolves now or was it an old skull? Thad swallowed hard.

“Yes.” Why did it buzz? Thad was a mage, everyone in his family was a mage. Spirits meant nothing to him.

Detective Thaddeus Ezax is in over his head. He’s the only wizard in Rockshade’s Paranormal Investigations Department, and it was his name that got him the job. The Ezaxs are known as some of the most powerful wizards in the world, but Thaddeus isn’t your average Ezaxs. Is it any wonder his family shuns him?

When a kidnapping case is dropped into his lap, Thaddeus must act fast. While most five-year-olds can cast a location spell, Thaddeus can’t and is forced to get creative. When he finds himself in possession of a black market werewolf skull with a ghost trapped inside, accidentally releases the spirit, and somehow forms a connection with it, things get even crazier.

Sandulf Hunter doesn’t remember dying, but he remembers the last thing he saw before everything went black—a wizard. All wizards must die! The only problem is, the wizard standing next to him smells too damned good, so good Sandy thinks he might have to keep him.

And since wherever Thaddeus goes, Sandulf finds himself yanked along, he might not have a choice in the matter anyway.

Autumn Books | Ofelia Gränd

Autumn is here!

Autumn is my favourite season by far, and you can tell by the number of books I’ve written that takes place during autumn. It’s the cold, the colours, the snuggling up indoors with a cup of something warm and some lit candles.

There is nothing better!

autumn-3193305_640 (1)So, if you want to read something fitting the season, these are my autumn books.

Click the title and you’ll come to a page with an excerpt.

Once Around Seven (Nortown #5) – A hurt-comfort/coming out story taking place in Nortown.

The Maddest of Men – A post-apocalyptic tale where some people have developed supernatural skill. Grayham is the son of a mob leader and Creed is a police officer.

The Lords of Lettuce– Starts where The Maddest of Men left off and we get to follow Creed and Grayham through a society that’s falling apart.

Deadly Sugar– Ah…horror. We have a man who likes to keep his men in a root cellar.

Deadly Lies – More death and cruelty in the root cellar LOL

Worth His Salt – Eldred Henstare – the not so powerful wizard in charge of chasing away ghosts from the city learns that Mo Vin has a ghost in his lighthouse.

Pine Tree Mary – A pine tree mary is a forest creature from the Scandinavian folklore, and Hush is one. Detective Quinn Manning never believed they existed.

Falling Through – Ghosts! Travis is at the end of his rope, he’s out of luck and out of money. Larry, on the other hand, hasn’t been this entertained since he died. Finally someone interesting lives in his apartment.

Knickers in a Twist – First story I ever wrote in English. It’s a DRitC story about a guy who likes a little lace and satin in his underwear.

Jaeger’s Lost and Found – Vampires and finders. I meant to make this a series… I love the old bookshop Archie lives in and the constant rain falling on the windows.

Black Bird – This is one of those mate-or-die stories. Arlo is on the run, Nash isn’t willing to let him go.

And there will be more autumn stories in future!
